Join us this week as we hear from our very own Jack J. Beller, MD Jack J. Beller, MD, FACS, FAAOS is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon practicing in Oklahoma. He received his MD degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1970 and served his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center prior to serving as a major on active duty in the USAF for two years during the Viet Nam Era before starting his private medical practice in Norman, Oklahoma in 1976. He was in a full-time Orthopaedic Surgery practice in Norman from 1976 until 2006. He has since volunteered his time serving in Indian Health Clinics in Oklahoma. Dr. Beller has been a member of the Cleveland-McClain County Medical Society, the Oklahoma State Medical Association (OSMA), and the American Medical Association for 40+ years. Dr. Beller has been a member of the OSMA delegation to the AMA House of Delegates since 1995 and served on the AMA Council of Legislation for 8 years and as Chair of the Council for 1 year. He has made numerable trips to Washington, DC over the years making “Hill Visits” to discuss issue of importance to Medicine with our Oklahoma Congressional Delegation. At OSMA, Dr. Beller has served as President in and Treasurer and has served as Chair of the Council on State Legislation and Regulation, Chair of the Federal Governmental Activities Council, Chair of Oklahoma Medical Political Action Committee (OMPAC), and Chair of Physicians Liability Insurance Company (PLICO). He currently serves as President of OSMA Health which provides health plan coverage for members of OSMA and other healthcare providers in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, and Kentucky. He helped found and served as Chair of PatientsFirst, Oklahoma’s scope of practice partnership. He was the “face” of tort reform in Oklahoma while OSMA was in a 7-year effort to get tort reform enacted. Awards which Dr. Beller has received include the Leadership in Medicine Award from OSMA, Physician of the Year in Private Practice from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Alumni Association, and the Presidential Citation from OSMA. In the community, Dr. Beller is a member of Rotary International and the Masonic Lodge. Formerly, he was a member of the Norman Regional Hospital Authority Board of Trustees where he served as Chair of the Finance Committee, a member of Cleveland County Cerebral Palsy Board of Directors, a member of Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma Board of Directors, a member of the Oklahoma Governor’s Task Force on Medical Liability Reform, and a member of the Oklahoma Physician Manpower Training Commission. He was the co-founder and served as Chief of Staff of the first free-standing surgery center built in Oklahoma. Dr. Beller is married to Ruth A. Beller. Together they have five children and twelve grandchildren. Ruth is a registered nurse and former member and Chair of Mary Abbott Childrens’ House Board of Directors, an organization which provides safe refuge for neglected and abused children in Norman, OK. |
